Happy Birthday Jesus Party

Wednesday we had our annual birthday party for Jesus.  No photographer for that. :(

But I did manage to snap a picture of my little friend helping me get the goody bags together. She's so organized. She had a little system going in no time. C you are my hero.

Goody Bags

I think they turned out cute and she helped me so much. Thank you C!

We put a balloon and some other candy and trinkets in each bag.  You are never too old for a balloon.  They loved them!

I wish I had pictures of the cupcakes one of the other leaders made.  Ah well, I tell ya, I am always too busy to stop and take pictures.

We began with PIZZA!  Yeah!
Then a puppet skit and the Christmas story, followed by a game involving candy, ended with cupcakes and the goody bags.  We had more planned, but ran out of time. One hour just isn't long enough.

I was given a "goody bag" by a couple of the kids, this makes it all worthwhile doesn't it?

I'm now "Deputy of Wednesday Nights"! LOL Priceless

If you'd like to make your own goody bags I am sharing my file here.  Be blessed!

Gentleness Bible Lesson

"But the fruit of the Spirit is, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23a

Our children's Church has been doing a unit on the fruit of the Spirit.  Each week we learn one of the components on that list. This lesson is about gentleness.

Here is the story I adapted focusing on Jesus' gentleness.  As with all scripture there are many facets to each episode.  There are tons we can learn from them but when you teach children, consider the age and the maturity level of your kids. We are teaching 4-7 year olds and some of our 4 year olds are very "young".  So this story has been adapted, not changing scripture but just being wise about what information a young child needs to know.

In this passage we see Jesus being gentle with a sinful woman. There are several scriptures portraying Jesus as gentle.  You could choose any of them.  For this unit the curriculum outline we follow uses this passage, …

Self-Control Bible Lesson

Thanks to the Kidologist and the Kidology Cookbook, I am able to quickly come up with different ways to tell a Bible story that are fun and easy to learn. If you stand in front of kids that are varied in ages with all kinds of varied attention spans and just talk, talk, talk; (I call it bobbing head) you aren't going to engage them for very long.  You'll have discipline problems for sure, but mostly they won't internalize what it is you want them to know.
Here is a story I wrote, with help from a friend, for an upcoming lesson on self-control.
For this story, we are going to make an acrostic using each letter in the word "Self-Control". The focus is on Peter as he makes mistakes that he was sure he would not make.  But the good news is Jesus still loves him and forgives him even though he knew that Peter was going to mess up before it even happened. Isn't Jesus awesome! I thank Him today for doing the same for me! He died on that cross even though he knew th…

Quiet Bags - Sermon Notes for Kids

Our church supplies a "quiet bag" to help little ones stay occupied during church.  We keep it simple with coloring pages, a small toy, and some colored pencils.  No markers or crayons are allowed. :)

I decided to make some little booklets "Sermon Notes"  that the kids can write and draw in then take home.

I'll show you what I made.  These are VERY simple and I'll change them up from time to time. I designed them with reader/writers and non-reader/writers in mind.

I just used an inexpensive graphics program that I've had for years.

Here is a printable version, without our church name on the cover if you would like to use these in your church.

Please let me know if you use this file!

I love coming up with things to help children interact with Christ.  Maybe you have other ideas you can share.  I'd love to know about what your church does to help disciple children.  Please leave a comment or link!
