What's on my Kidmin to do list this week? June 11, 2017

Last week was busy as usual. But I'm ready for another week and anxious to see what the Lord will do through His people.

I'm praying that a VBS backdrop I ordered comes in time. I don't want to waste money. If it arrives too late it will be useless to us. :( Father you know the need, so trivial but yet I don't want to be wasteful of your resources. It's in your hands. I trust You. :)

We had a successful decorating day on Saturday Here's a peek of the one picture I got. Yes, just one. I'm terrible about taking pictures when I'm busy.

Now I'm ready to move on to the next step. VBS is one week away. I'm so excited!

Sunday: My pastor has asked me to give a "mission report" on VBS this morning. I'm nervous and grateful. I teach Sunday school with my son and then rest after that.

Monday: Work on VBS at church. Finishing up as many details as possible before our last decorating day.

Tuesday: No training, no planning, nothing on the kidmin list today.

Wednesday: Lead our PowerSource group.

Thursday: Again, nothing specific on the list. I'll keep working on details of VBS as needed.

Friday: Ditto

Saturday: Decorating Day 2 Finishing up anything undone from last week and setting up our stations.

Gentleness Bible Lesson

"But the fruit of the Spirit is, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23a Our children's Church has been doing a unit on the fruit of the Spirit. Each week we learn one of the components on that list. This lesson is about gentleness. Here is the story I adapted focusing on Jesus' gentleness. As with all scripture there are many facets to each episode. There are tons we can learn from them but when you teach children, consider the age and the maturity level of your kids. We are teaching 4-7 year olds and some of our 4 year olds are very "young". So this story has been adapted, not changing scripture but just being wise about what information a young child needs to know. In this passage we see Jesus being gentle with a sinful woman. Store Your Treasures In Heaven Activity

Matthew 6 I found this great science activity to use four our unit on storing treasure in heaven and the kids loved it! It takes a little preparation ahead of time but it was really easy. You will need: ice trays, (or other mold that can be put in the freezer.) 3 parts baking soda 1 part water Jello gelatin as much as desired, flavor/color of your choosing. (We chose blue for ours.) vinegar (we used almost 2 gallons) something to squirt the vinegar out (condiment bottle, turkey baster, eye dropper etc.) To Prepare: Mix the baking soda and water, add in the Jello as desired. Self-Control Bible Lesson

Thanks to the Kidologist and the Kidology Cookbook , I am able to quickly come up with different ways to tell a Bible story that are fun and easy to learn. If you stand in front of kids that are varied in ages with all kinds of varied attention spans and just talk, talk, talk; (I call it bobbing head) you aren't going to engage them for very long. You'll have discipline problems for sure, but mostly they won't internalize what it is you want them to know. Here is a story I wrote, with help from a friend, for an upcoming lesson on self-control. For this story, we are going to make an acrostic using each letter in the word "Self-Control". The focus is on Peter as he makes mistakes that he was sure he would not make.
